Residents turned out Monday morning for the annual Somers Veteran's Day Parade which proceeded from Somers Town Hall to the Veterans Memorial. Dozens of groups, including boy and girl scouts, joined veterans as they marched along the street.
"I think it's a good honor," 91-year-old World War II veteran and Somers resident Fred DeLuca said about Veteran's Day.
DeLuca was 19 years old when he first volunteered to join the Army Air Club and later the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1942 to 1945, he later finished Fordham Law School and later became and federal investigator.
"I promised my parents I would come back alive," DeLuca said.
Senior Master Sgt. Tim McArdle, who served in the United States Air Force Reserve and is now the junior commander of Somers Post 8213, said he was honored to salute the country's veterans for their sacrifices.
"We are truly privileged to have such heroes among us," he said.
