How did you come up with the name?

I started my practice in 1978 and I was the only eye doctor in town at that time in Somers. Somers Eye Center seemed like a catchy name with the community in mind.

Why start a business in this town?

I’ve seen Somers develop since 1978 and continue to develop. As families are moving north of New York City, it’s become the place to live because of affordability, taxes, schools, services, and continued growth.

What business are you in?

We administer a comprehensive eye exams using the latest in technology. We treat many eye diseases, some are treated with medication while others are treated in-office. We have a fully stocked optical boutique which is stocked with designer brand name such as Chanel, Prada, Coach, Ray-Ban, and much more. We also carry many name brand Contacts and our prices are competitively priced.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

Our most difficult challenge is grabbing the attention of people who do not come to Somers Eye Center. We are located in the heart of Somers and our building, which looks like professional doctor’s office, does not make us look like your typical optical. Many patients come to our office and are amazed by what they see and say they never knew this was an optical.

What’s been your proudest achievement since opening?

Somers Eye Center prides itself on staying up to date with technology to offer our patients the very best. Every year we add some type of new device that aids us in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease. In the last five years we have acquired a new medical record software (Patients can access their records from the cloud), Optos Retinal camera (Takes a 200 degree view of the back of the patients eye), Atlas (measures the topography of a patients eye for hard contacts and cataracts), and most recently BlephEx and Lipiflow (Treatment for dry eye syndrome).

How does your business give back to the community?

Our office participates in many organizations and attends many health fairs in the area. We have discounted rates for Lions Club members and Lincoln Hall residents. We attend health fairs at Pepsi, Putnam Hospital, and Lions Club Events. We have also made donations to many organizations such as the American Heart and Diabetes Associations.
