Store officials said the 5,000 new jobs are in addition to the same amount Stop and Shop sought to fill at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March.
In total, the company has invested more than $121 million in its employees throughout the pandemic in extended healthcare and leave benefits, according to a spokesperson. The benefits included offering paid time off for any employee who had to quarantine, as well as access to personal protective equipment and other measures to help keep them safe.
