Strong Winds, Freezing Temps For Parts Of Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A strong cold front moving through the Hudson Valley sets the stage for wind gusts and below freezing temperatures in some parts of the region. There is a wind advisory and a freeze warning issued for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

The National Weather Service said the wind advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Forecasts call for 10 to 20 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph. Unsecured objects could be blown around. Tree limbs could come down, and there might be a few power outages.

The temperature will drop to 26 degrees overnight. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could be damaged.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, there could be a slight risk of thunderstorms producing locally damaging winds Tuesday afternoon.

Behind the cold front, gusty west to northwest winds are expected Tuesday evening through much of Wednesday afternoon.

Meteorologists said wind gusts of up to 45 mph are expected, and if they are stronger than that, a wind advisor would be issued. Overnight, the temperature will dip to 29 degrees.
