Summer Trails Day Camp Has a 'Pumpkin Smashing' Good Time

Summer Trails Day Camp families and friends had a "mashing, smashing, pounding, flinging, launching good time" smashing pumpkins on Nov. 4 for a post Halloween celebration.

The popular Day Camp invited people to bring their Halloween pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns for a chance to catapult them into the air and watch them go splat.

"Two contestants were able to aim, launch and hit a bulls-eye target nearly 50 yards away," Director of Summer Trails Jamie Sirkin said.

Gregory Siemers, of Katonah, and Simon Daley, of Yorktown Heights, were awarded with The Pumpkin Slingshot Extraordinaire award.

In addition to the smashing and launching, there were also pumpkin themed carnival games like pumpkin bowling, the pumpkin stem ring toss, and the exploding pumpkin experiment. It took 127 rubber bands and 15 minutes to explode the pumpkin.
