This week will bring a respite from 100-degree weather, with a spate of 80-degree days between Monday and Friday. Thursday will bring scattered thunderstorms, according to weather reports.

The "Spirit of Yorktown" awards are slated for Thursday, August 1. The Yorktown Republican Town Committee will honor three community leaders at Piatto Grill in Yorktown Heights.Â
The awards dinner, which is from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, features guest speaker Mark C. Dillon, a former Yorktown resident whose new book, The Montana Vigilantes, debuts in September.
