Yorktown High School Principal Warns Parents About 'Assassination Game'

Principal asks parents to discourage teens from participating.

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY - Yorktown High School Principal Joseph DeGennaro is asking parents to discourage their teens from participating in the "assassination game," where students gather into teams and seek to eliminate each other by hitting opponents with water balloons or water guns.

The winning team receives a cash prize, DeGennaro added.

DeGennaro expressed concern that the game will unintentionally lead to car accidents or property damage.

"Although some may view this situation as being harmless in nature, my fear is that in the process of playing the game some students will unwittingly cause serious damage to someone’s property, will be involved in a car accident as they race around avoiding one another, or will place themselves in danger in some other fashion," the principal wrote."

DeGennaro also wrote that reports of activity involving the game have already come in locally.

"Various school personnel have received reports from individual citizens, as well as the Police Department, which cite examples of students causing disorder in town as a result of being a participant in this activity."

The game takes place off of campus, according to DeGennaro, as the school itself serves as a "neutral zone."
