YORKTOWN, NY — Residents and businesses of Yorktown are being encouraged to decorate their properties for the second annual 4th of July Patriotic Decorating Contest.

Supervisor Matt Slater said the 4th of July decorating contest was something the town started last year during the pandemic as a way to bring the community together.

“With this summer’s easing of emergency restrictions, we hope our contestants’ imaginations will be set free,” he said.

The photographs must be submitted by midnight Sunday, July 4.

Jim Poulin, president of the Lion’s Club, said he wants everyone in our community to get involved.

"Last year the contest was a big hit and was a great way for the community to connect especially at such a difficult time,” he said.

Residents can enter the contest free of charge, and businesses must pay a $10 entrance fee.

The winner of the contest will be announced at the Group de Jour concert at the Lion’s Club on Sunday, July 11.

The winning business will be featured on the Yorktown Lions’ website for one year. The proceeds collected from the decorating contest will help fund the Lions Club’s community events.

The 4th of July Patriotic Decorating Contest is sponsored by the town of Yorktown, Yorktown Small Business Alliance, Lions International, Alliance for Safe Kids, Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International and Grange.
