Yorktown Man Stole $1,000 Worth of Scratch Off Lottery Tickets

An 18-year-old Yorktown man is facing criminal charges for stealing instant scratch off lottery tickets and then trying to hide the theft by falsifying business records while he was working as a gas station employee, Yorktown police said. 

Andrew A. Sommer was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, both felonies. 

Police said they received a report on Dec. 4 from Chestnut gas station, located on Commerce Street, about the theft. They revealed that Sommer had stolen $1,025 worth of New York instant scratch off lottery tickets on Dec. 2 while he was working at the gas station. In addition, police said he altered an inventory report in an attempt to conceal his actions.

The man voluntarily surrendered to police on Dec. 11. He was released on $200 bail and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Jan. 9, 2014.
