Yorktown Photographer to Display 'Sandy' Images in New York City

Yorktown photographer David Rocco's work will be on display at the Museum of the City of New York from Friday, Dec. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 29. One of Rocco's photographs from Hurricane Sandy is among 500 images selected for the presentation.

"When the City Museum held an open call for Hurricane Sandy images a few months back, over 900 photographers, amateur and professional alike, submitted their work for possible inclusion," organizers wrote in a description on their website.

Rocco's work was previously on display earlier this year at ArtsWestchester in White Plains.

"My love or interest in photography is the ability to record important moments in my travels," Rocco told Patch in a previous interview. "They may not be all important or exciting photos, but you have to shoot away just in case that moment happens to present itself."

Rocco will not know which one of his photographs has been chosen to be displayed until he sees it at the exhibit himself. Photographers were allowed to submit up to 16 images. He said he submitted "before and after" pictures.

"I choose what I thought were the best eight from November of 2012," he said. "[I] went back out to the Rockaways, Coney Island and Staten Island on Friday, July 5th to update each image."

The Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy exhibition in New York City will be a presentation of never-before-seen Superstorm Sandy images from 500 photographers.

"These powerful images demonstrate the hurricane's impact on the New York region," organizers said.
