Yorktown's 1st Pride March Kicks Off Saturday

The family friendly event will begin at noon at the town hall.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown's first-ever Pride March will take place Saturday.

Organizers said it's a family friendly event so you can bring a sign, bring a drum, bring a mask and bring your family and friends.

The parade will begin at noon at the town hall and travel east on Underhill Avenue to the intersection with Commerce Street, according to the Yorktown Police Department.

Participants should park in the old Kmart lot and walk over to Yorktown Town Hall at 363 Underhill Ave.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said it may be the first Pride March in Yorktown, but it won't be the last.

"In our towns, our villages, our cities, we will show — together — we are an inclusive Westchester, a diverse Westchester, and there is strength in that," he said, "and we are committed to doing the right thing and recognizing and understanding all people in Westchester County."

The Yorktown Pride Party will happen after the parade at 1:30 p.m. at Yorktown Grille, 347 Downing Drive.

The parade will require the closing of some streets, the police department said, from 11:30 a.m. until the end of the event, which is estimated to be about two hours.

The following roadways will be temporarily closed:

  1. Underhill Avenue from Route 118 to Front Street
  2. Commerce Street from Kear Street to Veterans Road
  3. Veterans Road from Commerce Street to Maple Hill Street
  4. Kear Street at Underhill Avenue
  5. Downing Drive at Commerce Street
  6. Hanover Road at Commerce Street
  7. Front Street at Underhill Avenue
