Young Women and the Effects of Cancer Treatment: An Open Discussion
It will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Support Connection's office in Yorktown. The discussion is ppen to women age 40 and younger who have been diagnosed with breast, ovarian or gynecological cancer. Advance registration is required. Deadline for Submitting "What Does the Great Goblin Look Like?" Drawings
The Yorktown Parks & Recreation Department would like to know what you think the Halloween Great Goblin looks like. All entries must be on an 8 1/2” x 11” white sheet of paper. The first place drawing will be used on the 2014 Great Goblin Call Program T-Shirts. This program is available to Yorktown residents, grades kindergarten to 5. Drawings must be submitted to the Recreation Department by Tuesday, Oct. 29 by 4 p.m.
Great Goblin Call
Pre-register at the Yorktown Parks & Recreation Office (Program No: 381301-A). Open to all Yorktown youngsters ages 3 to grade 2. If the Great Goblin calls, will you be home to answer the call? Calls are made on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Complimentary candy prizes and a Great Goblin T-shirt will be given to all participants at Yorktown's “spooky” Recreation office on Wednesday, Oct. 30, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Yorktown 'Gets Buzzing' with Movie Screening and Farm-to-Table Tasting
Community members are invited to participate in Yorktown’s SEPTA and Wellness Third Annual Movie Screening and Farm-to-Table Tasting on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Yorktown High School auditorium with the showing of “Vanishing of the Bees." Immediately following the film, there will be a honey sampling from local beekeepers and tastings in the high school cafeteria, prepared by area chefs who source from local farms. More details here.
Halloween Story Time and Parade at Somers Library
Come dressed in costume, hear Halloween stories with Doris Jane Smith and then trick-or-treat around the library (courtesy of the Friends of the Library) on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. No registration is necessary.
Storywalk Returns at Somers Library
Enjoy the beauty of the park in autumn and read "Room on the Broom" by Julia Donaldson as walk around the exterior of the library on Wednesday, Oct. 30. After you finish reading the book come into the library for a cookie (during library hours).
