Davidson Eatery Closes For A Week After Worker Tests Positive

All employees of Davidson Ice House will be tested for COVID-19 before they return to work, the restaurant's owner said.

DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson Ice House will close its doors for a week out of "abundance of caution" following the news that an employee tested positive for novel coronavirus, restaurant owner Jen Brule said Thursday.

The employee had not worked a shift or been inside the restaurant for 12 days, Brule said.

"I’ve spoken at length with officials at the Health Department and while they don’t expect businesses to close if an employee tests positive, I take the health of my customers and staff too seriously to mess around with this," she said in a Facebook post. "Quite honestly, I’ll take a significant financial hit by temporarily shutting our doors, but money seems trivial at this point."

During the week the restaurant is closed, it will be "scrubbed and sterilized," and all workers will be tested for COVID-19, she said, adding, "No one will be allowed back to work until they have the all clear from a physician."

The news comes as the spread of COVID-19 continues throughout Mecklenburg County. As of Friday, county health officials reported 9,320 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mecklenburg County, and 147 deaths. In Davidson, 59 cases were confirmed Friday, along with three deaths.
