DAVIDSON, NC -- In the age of ride sharing and office space sharing, nothing seems off the table when it comes to the quest for environmental friendly efficiencies, not even wedding flowers. It was just this idea of flower sharing that earned one Davidson College alumna and her business partner a $50,000 Venture Fund prize.

Julia Capalino, who graduated from Davidson in 2011, and Danit Zamir were awarded the top prize March 25 for their start-up concept Bloomerent during the college’s Shark Tank-like Venture Fund event where student and alumni teams made pitches to a panel of entrepreneurs.

The Bloomerent flower sharing logistics concept pairs events to share costs of floral arrangements that can have a shelf life of up to 2 weeks. It’s clients who have first use of the arrangements get 10 percent of the purchase price back when they’re used by a second client, who can save between 40-60 percent by recycling them, Capalino and Zamir told the judges.
