Severe Weather Headed To Lake Norman: What You Need To Know

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for all of Mecklenburg County until 10 p.m., the National Weather Service said Thursday.

DAVIDSON, NC —A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for all of Mecklenburg County and the Lake Norman region until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which says showers will likely begin later this afternoon.

“Some of the storms could be severe,” NWS said.

While soggy weather is expected Thursday evening, sunny skies will return Friday, when the high is expected to reach nearly 90. The prospect of showers in the forecast will return Saturday and Sunday, when both days have a 30 percent chance of rain, forecasters said.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. West southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and midnight. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 69. West southwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
