HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A driver fleeing police Thursday night narrowly avoided hitting a fire department engine truck before hitting a tree in the front yard of a Huntersville home, according to authorities.

The incident occurred overnight on McIllwaine Road at McCoy Road, according to Huntersville Fire.

“Engine 4 was responding to a medical call in the area when a speeding car (fleeing police) barely missed E4 and struck a tree,” HFD said. “Crew of Engine 4 called for assistance from Station 1 & quickly went to work on the driver in the car. Never a dull moment.”

According to Huntersville Police Department, officers spotted the driver operating the vehicle recklessly and attempted to stop it.

“The vehicle failed to stop and officers discontinued the attempted stop due to the speed and continued to a call for service on McCoy Rd,” a HPD spokesperson told Patch, adding, “The driver was transported to the hospital where they were cited for flee to elude.”
