Here's When Severe Weather Is Expected In Huntersville
The weather outlook for the Charlotte metro region changed Thursday morning. Here's what forecasters say to expect today.
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Severe weather is expected in Huntersville and throughout most of North Carolina Thursday, and could likely include strong winds, large hail, and the potential strong tornadoes, forecasters warn.
"Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur today," the National Weather Service said Thursday morning in a hazardous weather outlook bulletin. "A few storms may become strong to severe, producing damaging wind gusts, hail, and an isolated tornado. The greatest threat for severe will be along and southeast of interstate 85."
The most severe storms are expected to arrive in Huntersville between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to North Carolina Emergency Management.

The threat of tornadoes in the Charlotte metro region, however, was reduced overnight compared to earlier predictions, according to the state's emergency agency.
"Since yesterday’s updates, the severe threat has lessened due to slightly more stable conditions for many areas," North Carolina Emergency Management said Thursday morning. "However, severe storms are still possible across most of the state today and into this evening."

There is about a 5 percent chance that a significant severe tornado is possible in the Charlotte metro, NCEM said Thursday morning. The area however is at greater risk for high winds and damaging hail., with a 15 percent probability of both winds in excess of 58 mph and hail larger than 1 inch in diameter, it said.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 3pm and 4pm. Patchy fog before 2pm. High near 70. South wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers after 5am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. South wind 10 to 13 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
