Carolina Synchro Club swam to First Place in Junior Combo and Second Place in Junior Team competition last weekend at the USA Synchronized Swimming South Zone competition at the Long Center in Clearwater, Fla., earning a spot in next month’s USA Synchro Junior National Championships.
The victory in Combo, a 5-minute routine featuring 10 swimmers working as a team in combination with duets and solos, was a first in the South Zone competition for Carolina Synchro, which is based at Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics.
The Team Competition against clubs from Florida, Maryland, Texas and Virginia included two separate routines, technical and free. The runner-up results qualified Carolina Synchro to compete in the USA Synchro Junior National Championship April 10-14 in Riverside, Calif., for the third time after a successful appearance last season in the Senior National Championship, where the team won the Bronze Medal in tech. The Junior division includes swimmers between 15-18 years old.
In addition, the Carolina Synchro Junior Duet featuring Elaina Anderson and Marian Catahan in free and Campbell Cupples together with Catahan in tech finished sixth overall. Catahan was also honored with the South Zone Athlete Spirit Award.
The next generation of Carolina Synchro stars in the 13-15 Age Group earned a 13th-place result for its Team Routine and 16th in Duet.
“The team works so hard, in and out of the pool, so it’s exciting to see them achieve so much success,” Coach Anne Schulte said. “We’re still a young team in the national landscape of synchronized swimming, but to continue having successful meets year in and year out is extremely rewarding.”
The Junior Team features Bridget Anderson, Elaina Anderson, Carissa Bostian, Margaret Brant, Marian Catahan, Campbell Cupples, Kelsey Dolack, Madison Dolack, Abbey Oliver and Sarah Stump.
The 13-15 Team features Amelia Easter, Gigi Gandiaga, Siera Gashi, Aubree Jones, Addison Lord and Cassie Schafer.
