"I spoke [with] the injured HPDNC officer this evening & was glad to hear he is doing well," Trump said via Twitter. "Thank you, as always, to all of the law enforcement officials who work to protect us every day!"
Melania, along with her husband, President Donald Trump, were both in the state campaigning Monday. Changing political demographics in the state in recent years have turned North Carolina into a toss-up state, thrusting it into "the center of the political universe," according to CNN. The state's 15 electoral votes are crucial for Trump to remain in office, and without them, "his path to victor would become significantly more difficult," The Washington Post reported.
