North Carolina Gas Shortage: Where To Find Gas In Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Drivers in Huntersville and throughout North Carolina are finding a rude awakening at gas stations this week. Panic buying following a cyberattack and temporary shutdown of a regional pipeline has led to widespread gas shortages in the region.

As of Wednesday morning, at least 71 percent of Charlotte area gas stations had no gas left in their tanks for sale, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

Colonial Pipeline said Tuesday evening that it "continues to make forward progress" in returning its system back to service. In the interim, the company said it had delivered about 41 million gallons of gasoline through shippers to delivery points in the Charlotte market, as well as markets in Atlanta; Greensboro, North Carolina; Baltimore; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Woodbury and Linden, New Jersey.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper signed an executive order Monday declaring a state of emergency after the temporary shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline. The executive order stops some fuel regulations to help ensure there is enough fuel supply available throughout the state.

"Report price gouging and please don't rush to top off your tanks," Cooper said Tuesday.

Drivers can scout ahead for fuel by using online tools, such as the website and phone app Gas Buddy, which has updates on stations that still have gas supply and those that are running low.

According to GasBuddy, the following gas stations in Huntersville still had gas as of Wednesday morning:

• Valero, 502 Gilead Road, Huntersville
• Shell, 9101 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville
• Pitt Stop, 14601 Statesville Road, Huntersville
