One Dead, 2 Injured In Single Car Crash On I-77 Near Huntersville
One person was killed and two others injured in a single-car crash along Interstate 77 early Tuesday morning.
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — One person was killed and two others injured in a single-car crash early Tuesday, May 21 on Interstate 77 after Exit 23 near Gilead Road in Huntersville, according to fire officials.
The accident occurred on the interstate around 2 a.m., around Stumptown Road when the 2019 Chevrolet Impala drove off the roadway, WSOC reported.
According to Huntersville Fire Department, the car traveled behind the guard rail, striking a metal pole.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene and two other passengers in the vehicle were cut out of the vehicle before being transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries, WSOC said. None of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts, highway patrol told the station.
The predawn crash temporarily closed down northbound lanes at Gilead Road before traffic was diverted to the northbound toll lane. The crash is now under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
