Overdose Behind Huntersville Walgreens Prompts Drug Arrest: HPD
Jason Shultz, 48, was arrested after police found him in possession of numerous drugs when they responded to a 911 overdose call.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A South Carolina man who made an emergency call to report an overdose behind a Huntersville drug store over the weekend was arrested and charged with numerous felony drug offenses after police found him to be in possession, according to the Huntersville Police Department.
The Jan. 25 incident occurred behind Walgreens located at 9848 Gilead Road in Huntersville.
According to an HPD spokesperson, Jason Thomas Shultz, 48, initially called made the call to alert authorities that someone had overdosed.

Shultz is a resident of Waterloo, South Carolina, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Responding HPD officers performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator on the patient, and then transported them to an area hospital for treatment. While officers were on the scene, K9 Gunner gave a positive alert for narcotics, HPD said.

“Methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana and other controlled substances were located,” HPD said.
Shultz was arrested without incident and charges included possession with intent to sell/deliver, possession of marijuana; possession with intent to manufacture a Schedule II controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Normally, an individual who calls police for someone experiencing an overdose is covered under the ‘Good Samaritan Law’ and has limited immunity; however, due to the amount of narcotics located, the individual in this case is not considered exempt,” an HPD spokesperson told Patch.
No charges are expected for the overdose patient, the spokesperson said.
