Student Charged After Making School Shooting Threat

After Huntersville Police received a threat at North Meck High, other schools in the area went into a brief lockdown Tuesday morning.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A 15-year-old student has been charged for making a shooting threat aimed at a Huntersville high school that also sent numerous area schools into a brief lockdown Tuesday morning, according to police.

Huntersville Police Department learned of the threat at the high school located at 11201 Old Statesville Road in Huntersville shortly before 10 a.m., a police spokesperson told Patch.

In addition to North Meck High School, Lake Norman Charter, JM Alexander and Blythe Elementary schools were all placed on lockdown as well, HPD said.

By 11:30 a.m., the threat had been deemed by authorities as not credible and all schools, except for North Meck High, which was organizing its lunch schedule, lifted their lockdowns, HPD said.

Tuesday evening, police announced that a 15-year-old student had called in the fake threat.

"The North Mecklenburg High School student will be charged with Making a False Report Concerning Mass Violence on Educational Property through the Juvenile Justice system," HPD said in a statement.
