'Thanksgifting' Grocery Giveaway Set For Saturday In Huntersville
Christ Community Church in Huntersville is giving away 500 Thanksgiving meals during the grocery giveaway Saturday.
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — The congregation of Christ Community Church in Huntersville is making the holiday brighter for 500 local families who will receive groceries to prepare Thanksgiving meals this weekend.
Church members are holding a "Thanksgifting" grocery giveaway Saturday, Nov. 21 from noon until 3 p.m. at the church, located at 16301 Old Statesville Road in Huntersville.
The demand for groceries far exceeded the supply this year, according to event organizers who said all reservation spots for groceries had been filled. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be held as a drive-through this year in order to keep guests and volunteers safe, event organizers said.

In North Carolina, about 14 percent of residents were considered food insecure in 2018, according to data compiled by Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization. Due to the pandemic, that number is expected to climb to 19.3 percent by the end of 2020.
