HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Thanksgiving Day is considered a federal holiday, which means government offices, schools and some businesses will take a break in its observance.
Huntersville and Mecklenburg County government offices will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.

U.S. Post Office: Closed
State Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29

Town of Huntersville Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29
Huntersville Trash Collection: No trash pick up Nov. 28, but collection resumes Friday (Thursday routes) and Saturday (Friday routes).
Mecklenburg County Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29
This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency offices.
Department of Social Services: hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).
Mecklenburg County Health Department: Closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29
Solid Waste: Administrative offices will close on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, 2019. All Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and reopen normal hours on Friday, Nov. 29.
Park and Recreation: Administrative offices be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, 2019.
Recreation and Senior Centers will close at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, 2019.
Nature Centers: Closed Thanksgiving Day and will reopen on Friday, Nov. 29.
The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center and Ray's Splash Planet will close at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 .
The Marion Diehl Pool is closed for renovations.
CharMeck 311: Closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29
Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed
Library: North County Regional Public Library, as well as all Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches, are closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.
Movies:
- Regal Birkdale, located at 16950 Birkdale Commons Parkway in Huntersville, is open
- Our Town Cinemas, located at 227 Griffith Street in Davidson, opens at 4 p.m.
- AmStar-14, located at 206 Norman Station Blvd in Mooresville is open
- AMC Northlake 14, located at 7325 Northlake Mall Drive in Charlotte, is open
