Marietta fun fact of the day:

While Marietta was obviously made up of settlers and pioneers, the city's attitude about itself changed by the 1900s. By 1940 the boast was often made that the population was overwhelmingly white and native-born. The city began to turn inward. Until the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mariettans pretty much lived in their own little world, focusing on local business, and cultivating rural roots.

1. An Athens County man is facing murder charges. Justin Pennington is being held on $1,000,000 bond for the death of Blaine Sharpe. (WTAP)
2. Two Marietta College baseball players got golden glove honors. Drew Holderbach and Sam Matthews were named top defensive players in the nation for their positions. (Marietta College)
3. Washington State Community College is offering free tuition. A community impact grant could help cover up to 15 credit hours for anyone impacted by the pandemic. (Patch)
4. Ohio announced the final winners of its Vax-A-Million sweepstakes. They weren't from around here. (Patch)
5. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled against an Ohio school district's policy about arming teachers. The policy allowed up to 10 teachers or staffers to carry weapons if they had 24-hours of training. The court ruled that they had to have at least 700 hours of basic peace officer training, or 20-years in law enforcement. (Statehouse News Bureau)

-The city will be helping folks do some spring cleaning in the summer. This Friday they will be accepting and disposing of unwanted garbage, furniture, bicycles, toys, scrap lumber, carpet, doors, and windows. Details about their Cleanup Days Event can be found here.

-This Saturday Marietta Main Street will be hosting a Wine and Chocolate Walk event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Details here.
