This weekend we celebrate America's independence by flying our nation’s flag, attending and walking in parades, watching fireworks and enjoying backyard BBQs with our families and friends. I am thankful to live in the greatest nation in the world, and proud to call myself an American. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July.

Floor Speech Against Biden's Destructive Energy Agenda

Find out what's happening in Mariettafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

I spoke on the House floor against the Democrats’ resolution, S.J. Res 14, which would reinstitute over-burdensome regulations on oil and natural gas producers. With the Biden administration’s cancellations of pipelines, bans on new energy production on federal lands (currently blocked by a federal judge), and proposed bans on domestic plastic manufacturing, it’s clear President Biden’s energy plan might as well have been written in Moscow or Beijing. While he lifts sanctions on the Russians’ ability to produce and sell energy resources, here at home the President is imposing sanctions on America’s energy workers! All without Russia or China having to lift a finger. We are better than this, and we must be smarter than this.

Critical Race Theory InfiltratesSchools Nationwide

Across America, we are seeing parents stand up to left-leaning school boards and teachers attempting to indoctrinate our kids in critical race theory (CRT) – the insidious notion that America and our institutions are fundamentally racist and that people should be judged by the color of their skin rather than the content of their character.CRT is thinly cloaked racism seeking to open a healing wound by pitting Americans against one another. CRT is being pushed by academic and political elites to divide Americans in order to amass more power and control for themselves over our daily lives.

I urge you to keep standing up to this poison.

Gallipolis River Recreation Festival

For almost fifty years, the annual Gallipolis River Recreation Festival has been held over the 4th of July weekend. With the Ohio River as the background, the event grows year after year, and has become a high point of community celebration, attracting thousands of residents and travelers from across the country. Thank you to the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce for its hard work in organizing the festival. Glad to be there to help kick it off…enjoy!

The HOPE for Afghan SIVs Act Passes the House

This week, I voted to support H.R. 3385, the HOPE for Afghan SIVs Act, bipartisan legislation authored by my colleagues Jason Crow of Colorado and fellow Ohioan Brad Wenstrup. This bill would enable our government to evacuate and process Afghans into the U.S. who helped our soldiers as interpreters and guides ahead of the scheduled September 11 troop withdrawal. In every conflict America has ever engaged in, there have been those among the native populations where the fighting happens who understand that America is trying to help them. Such is the case in Afghanistan…and, no matter how one feels about the war in Afghanistan, it’s imperative we protect these brave men and women who worked side-by-side with our military on the ground, knowing the personal risk to them and their families. Their lives (and those of their families) are on the line and America needs to send a strong message that we keep our promises to those who help us.
