Marietta fun fact of the day:
Many middle-class Mariettans were staunchly anti-slavery. They believed slavery to be against the morals of honest, hardworking, Christians. And that free labor, the right to earn whatever rewards the market was willing to pay, was the center of American society. Marietta's temperance crusade and anti-slavery movement started at the same time. Their link was noted at the Fourth of July celebration in 1834 by orator George Woodbridge. "...The bright hosts of Temperance have unfurled their flag, and rescue comes to a sinking world. Colonization too, with sterner justice leagues, with generous ardour for Afric pleas..."

Here are the top stories for the day:
- Larry Householder has been expelled from the Ohio House. He'd been caught up in an alleged dark money scandal to bailout two nuclear plants. State Reps voted 75-21 to ouster the former Speaker of the House. (Patch)
- Washington County deputies are on the lookout for Sheldon Dwight Hill. He's their fugitive of the week. If anyone spots him they're asked to just call the authorities, and not try to apprehend him. (Patch)
- The Ohio Senate has passed a sports gambling bill. If the House signs off on the bill too, sports gambling in the state will be legal and overseen by the Casino Control Commission. (Statehouse News Bureau)
- The fourth round of Ohio Vax-A-Million prizes have been awarded and surprise surprise, they aren't going to anyone from around here. A woman from Findlay won the million, and a student from Cincinnati won the scholarship. (Patch)
- Southeastern Ohio's Congressman Bill Johnson has been busy in Washington this week.
- He voted nay on H.R. 1443, a bill requiring the reporting the status of LGBTQ-owned businesses for fair lending laws, that failed the House.
- He voted yea to H.R. 3325, this will award four congressional gold medals to the United States Capitol Police and those who protected the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. It passed the House.
- He voted nay on H.R. 239, the equal access to contraception for Veterans Act. It would have prohibited the VA from requiring any veteran to pay for contraception. It failed the House.

- There will be a Music in the Park event on Thursday at Muskingum Park. It's free and details can be found here.
-There will be a kids event at the Washington County Public Library. It's called Science with Author Diana Perry and it will take place on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Details here.
-Marietta College will be hosting a Juneteenth Freedom Day event. It kicks off at noon near the Kremer Amphitheater. Details here.
-On Saturday there will be a Henderson Hall Civil War Re-enactment. It's a six-hour event that kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Valley Gem Sternwheeler. Details here.
