Marietta fun fact of the day:

Marietta's anti-slavery movement was strong for decades leading up to the Civil War. A number of prominent local families were part of the Underground Railroad. More than 4,000 Washington County men served in the Union army. There were 640 men from Marietta and Harmar that served, 60 of whom died. Of those 60 who died, only 15 died in battle. Most of the other deaths were caused by disease, complications from wounds and in one case, suicide.

  1. Marietta City Council proposes an ordinance to make roosters illegal. (The Marietta Times)
  2. The Save Harmar Bridge campaign is working to fundraise so they can reopen the bridge. Their efforts have raised $90,000. You can donate here. There will also be a raffle soon. (WMOA)
  3. Sports betting is one step closer to being legal in Ohio. The state Senate just passed the bill and now it moves to the House. (Ohio Capital Journal)
  4. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is urging high school athletes to get vaccinated. He said the vaccine is the most effective tool to prevent the spread of COVID-19. (WTAP)
  5. Marietta College celebrates Juneteenth. They treated guests to free food, drinks and even had a Frederick Douglass impersonator. (WTAP)

-On Saturday there will be a Henderson Hall Civil War Re-enactment. It's a six-hour event that kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Valley Gem Sternwheeler. Details here.

-There will be a music and food on the lawn event by the Cornerstone Inn on Saturday. It kicks off at 5:30. Dustin Kildow will be playing this weekend. Details here.

-There will be a car show this Sunday which is Father's Day. It will be hosted by the Lions Club. Details here.
