MARIETTA, OH — The Levee House Bistro in downtown Marietta is open for business! It has been open for a month, and very successful too, but today they held their official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Kelsey Eaton, President of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce organized the event for owners Tom and Casey Hickey, which was well attended. Even Mayor Josh Schlicher and Congressman Bill Johnson were able to make it.

Head chef and owner Tom Hickey said he was humbled by the amount of support they’ve received. “This last month since we’ve been open it’s been a great turnout. We’ve seen a lot of customers, old faces and new faces.” Hickey has seven children, a number of them as well as other family members are employees. He says they’re just going to keep moving forward and making good food.

Mayor Josh Schlicher made some remarks before the ribbon-cutting. He welcomed the Hickeys to the community on behalf of the City of Marietta. “We’re looking forward to a great new restaurant, we know you’re going to do well, and we wish you the best.”

Congressman Johnson said he’s very familiar with Tom’s work from back at the Buckley House. “In fact, he served me and LeeAnn our last anniversary meal.”

He also outlined why the building itself is so important. “This structure, for those of you who don’t know the history, is the last remaining original structure from original Marietta.” Since 1826 when it was built, it’s changed ownership and purpose a number of times. “Now we see it being used for something really really special.” Johnson predicts that this will be a favorite hangout place.

The Congressman issued an official proclamation.

“From the United States House of Representatives, this is a proclamation recognizing the Levee House Bistro on the occasion of its grand opening and ribbon cutting. On behalf of the people of Ohio’s 6th Congressional District, I am honored to recognize the Levee House Bistro on its grand opening and ribbon cutting. The only remaining riverfront structure in Marietta. The building was constructed in 1826 for Dudley Woodbridge, the first merchant of the Northwest Territory. Since then the Levee House has served as a dry goods store, a hotel, a restaurant, a tavern. Now under the new ownership and direction of local chef Tom Hickey and his wife Casey, the Levee House is a family-owned operation boasting a robust and varied menu offering fresh seafood, steaks, pasta, and much more. It is heartening to see a structure with so much history be put to such good use to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and employ local residents. Thus with great pride, I congratulate Tom and Casey Hickey on the occasion of the Levee House Bistro’s grand opening and ribbon cutting. I wish Tom and Casey nothing but the best as they embark on this family adventure and open the doors to their restaurant. Signed on this day the 23rd of March, 2021. Sincerely me, Bill Johnson.”
