Mayoral Update + Jail Improvements + Skate Park Reopens

Good morning Marietta. This is the Marietta Daily, the best way to stay up-to-date with the goings-on of your community. We have everything, weather, news, and events. I would like to make a slight correction. Last week one of the stories in my news update had to do with Governor Mike DeWine and mandatory vaccines. I stated that Governor DeWine was for mandatory vaccines based on his stance on HB 248. This proposed bill would make it illegal for employers or schools to mandate vaccines. He is against that bill.
Governor DeWine's Press Secretary Dan Tierney reached out to me to clear this up. Governor DeWine is not for any official mandating of COVID-19 vaccines. His position is that it is up to every Ohioan, it's their choice. Unless their school or employer decides the vaccine is mandatory. He is for employers and schools making that decision.

I spoke to him about how the messaging seems a bit mixed here, Tierney said he understood the confusion. He assured me that DeWine is not for mandatory COVID vaccines, but for not limiting institutions from imposing their own health restrictions as it pertains to this particular matter. Apologies folks hope this clears that up.

Marietta fun fact of the day:
Many middle-class Mariettans once believed that alcohol was the root of all evil. But interestingly, excessive drinking was a part of Marietta society almost from the beginning, remember this is a river city started by soldiers. People started making a public stink about it as early as 1818 when the Society in Marietta for the Promotion of Good Morals started. It was headed by David Putnam. In the 1820s there were letters calling town drunkards things such as, "beasts without reason." These letters found their way into the local papers.
