Marietta had a number of hidden communities over the years. There are many references in early 20th century Marietta newspapers to large Syrian or Italian communities in town, but Census data doesn't support that. One theory is because of the transient nature of the local population at the time, they may have been here for a few years, but moved on before they ever got to be officially counted by the Census.
