Marietta fun fact of the day:

In the mid-1800s a growing German population in Marietta and Washington County was a source of tension for the area. By 1850 nearly 10% of the population had been born in another country, and nearly 25% born in another state. Many middle-class residents were offended by German drinking and socializing. Germans eventually became an important force in Marietta with their distinct contributions to churches, holidays, and fraternal organizations.
