The antislavery movement had been generally pretty strong in Marietta, but there are always exceptions. There was an Anti Slavery Society in Marietta, but at one point in 1836, a group of counterprotesters called for the Anti Slavery Society to disband. On another occasion, a mob near Parkersburg, Virginia threw David Putnam (a staunch anti-slavery advocate) and his friend, Augustus Stone into the Ohio River.

  1. Ohio is no longer under a state of emergency. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said that the state of emergency announced at the beginning of the pandemic is over. (WTAP)
  2. A Charleston man has been arrested for the Meigs County Easter Sunday murder. Investigators say that 21-year-old Jaquan Hall killed 25-year-old Kane Roush on April 4th. (WTAP)
  3. A Washington County Grand Jury has entered indictments for 21 people. See if anyone you know has been charged with a felony. (Patch)
  4. President of the Washington County Commissioners Kevin Ritter made a statement about the county healthcare plans. (Patch)
  5. The Peoples Bank Theatre has some updates. They're moving back the date for the Marshall Tucker Band from August to October. They will also be celebrating the DORA on July 2nd. (WMOA)

-There will be a kids event at the Washington County Public Library. It's called Science with Author Diana Perry and it will take place on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Details here.

-Marietta College will be hosting a Juneteenth Freedom Day event. It kicks off at noon near the Kremer Amphitheater. Details here.

-On Saturday there will be a Henderson Hall Civil War Re-enactment. It's a six-hour event that kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Valley Gem Sternwheeler. Details here.

-There will be a car show on Father's Day. It will be hosted by the Lions Club. Details here.
