Marietta fun fact of the day:

During the oil boom of the 189os Marietta was a rough and tumble town. A lot of transients passed through while brothels and saloons thrived openly. Marietta had a large foreign population for a time, with folks from Belgium, China, Greece, Italy, Russia, Syria, and Turkey. Sadly their numbers will never be known because Census data from 1880 and 1940 just divides Marietta into foreign-born whites and native-born whites. Blacks, Native Americans, Chinese, and Japanese had a separate classification.

Cheapest gas in town:

  • Go Mart on Pike Street, $2.82
  • The Loading Zone in Williamstown, $2.95
  • Marathon on Muskingum Drive, $3.09
  • Marathon on Gilman Avenue, $3.09
  • Marathon on State Route 7, $3.09

A full list can be found here.

The average gas price in Ohio today is $2.99

Here are the top stories for the day:

  1. The Marietta Fire Department yanked a car from the bottom of the Muskingum River. The 2004 Saturn had been stolen in 2005, the same year it was plunged into the water. (WTAP)
  2. A number of concerned citizens spoke out at the Marietta City School District Board of Education meeting against critical race theory. (Patch)
  3. Ohio lawmakers have passed a bill preventing schools and employers from mandating COVID vaccines. Governor Mike DeWine hasn't said if he intends to sign the bill. But his office has been very clear, DeWine is against mandatory vaccines, but for schools and employers to have the choice to mandate them. (Statehouse News Bureau)
  4. A Belpre golf cart ordinance passed. The city council voted 4-3 in favor of allowing golf carts on Belpre roads. Not all roads though, only roads 25 mph or lower and drivers have to have a valid drivers license. (WTAP)
  5. A woman is expected to survive after a crash on State Route 7 in Newport. The unidentified woman had to be removed via jaws of life after she went off the road and hit a tree. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. (WTAP)
