Marietta fun fact of the day:

Marietta, being a river town, has a rich history involving prostitution. In 1842 they passed the Ordinance for the Suppression of Vice and Immorality. This law condemned people who hired "idle, lewd, and dissolute women who make a livelihood by prostitution," and they could be fined $3-$20 every 24-hours they kept the prostitute.

1. U.S. Supreme Court denies Marietta teacher's case. Janelle Patterson of the Marietta Times reports that the nation's highest court has refused to hear the case of Thompson v. Marietta Education Association. (The Marietta Times)

2. The Marietta Skate Park is ready to rock. SUMO worked in the rain to get the skate park updated in time for summer. (Patch)

3. Gravestone work at Mound Cemetery. Jacob Krantz of WMOA reports that the Washington County Historical Society is repairing or replacing 26 gravestones at Mound Cemetery. (WMOA)

4. The Marietta Police Department has released its police reports for the past week. As usual, there were a lot of shoplifting cases from Walmart. (Patch)

5. Washington County Sheriff's Office honors Deputy Martin. He saved the life of a Belpre man last month. Martin was given the BSSA Lifesaving Award. (Washington County Sheriff's Office)

-The Marietta Welfare League will be hosting Music in the Park. It's a free event that kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 10. Details here.

-Cleanup Days will be held on Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12. This is an event paid for with taxpayer funds for any city resident looking to clear trash or junk out of their place. Details here.

- The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be holding a firearm and miscellaneous item auction on Saturday, June 12. Details here.

- Marietta Main Street: Second Sunday on Sunday, June 13. Join us in downtown Marietta during the Second Sunday of June, July, and August for great food, great shops, great music, and great fun for the whole family. Details here.
