If Varone's death was a homicide, this would be the second high-profile killing in Mayfield Heights in the past few months. Rebecca Pletnewski and her 8-year-old daughter, Olivia, were killed in late November.

Police believe Pletnewksi was stabbed to death by Dominique Swopes, while Olivia died from smoke inhalation when Pletnewski's house was set on fire.
