Editor's Note: Patch.com Parent Company AOL to Buy The Huffington Post

Website grew 22 percent last year

Patch's parent company, AOL, has agreed to acquire The Huffington Post, one of the fastest-growing properties on the Internet.

Arianna Huffington and Ken Lerer co-founded the website six years ago as a source of news, commentary and information. Huffington will lead the newly formed Huffington Post Media Group, which will integrate all Huffington Post and AOL content.

The home page at AOL.com features a video, You've Got Arianna Huffington, talking about the need for sleep to be productive. For the official news release about the acquisition, click here.

It is unknown what impact this will have on the nearly 800 community news websites operated by Patch across the country, including Hillcrest Patch.

But I remain committed to continue to bring you the latest local government, business, schools, police and other news in a timely manner.
