Free Composting Seminar Comes To University Heights

There will also be composting bins and other products for-sale during the event.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District is hosting a series of free seminars on composting. One of the seminars will be held at University Heights City Hall on June 5.

Attendees don't have to be University Heights residents to attend. The seminars are open to anyone from Cuyahoga County. Registration is required (link at the bottom of the article).

What is composting? It's a simple process, actually, and a natural one. Compost is made-up of organic materials, from plants and animals, that are decomposing mostly via exposure to oxygen.

Compost, rich with nutrients, is then used in gardens, landscaping and horticulture and agriculture, the Waste District said. The use of compost can help land, serving as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer and a natural pesticide.

During the free seminars, attendees will learn how to properly compost yard wate and food scraps in their backyards. When individuals compost their own waste, it cuts down on the amount of material being sent to landfills.
