Hillcrest Hospital Art Exhibit Featured on PBS Show Tonight

Art in the Twenty-First Century covers artist Catherine Opie.

Artwork at will be featured as part of a segment on Catherine Opie airing at 9 p.m. tonight on Art in the Twenty-First Century on PBS.

The series, which starts its sixth season tonight, covers contemporary artists and their works. Opie is the first of three artists on tonight's program. Ai Weiwei and El Anatsui also are featured.

Last June, , a suite of 22 photographs covering Lake Erie's transformation through the seasons. The permanent exhibit is along the Seidman Concourse at Hillcrest Hospital, which commissioned the work.

"We were honored and thrilled to have her," said Joanne Cohen, executive director and curator of the art program for the Cleveland Clinic system. She added that the work was Opie's first site-specific installation.

A Sandusky native, Opie now lives in Los Angeles but returned on six separate occasions to photograph Lake Erie for the exhibit. The program shows her taking photos on the shoreline, as well as the studio editing process leading to the final work.

Opie also discusses early portraits she took of friends and a series featuring store owners in her Los Angeles neighborhood.
