It's Girl Scout Week in Mayfield Heights

City honors group on its 100th anniversary.

The Pledge of Allegiance was a bit louder at Monday's City Council meeting, as about a dozen local Girl Scouts lent their enthusiastic voices.

The girls, wearing uniforms with Troop 70075 patches and all the badges they've earned, were there to receive a resolution honoring the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts, which was founded on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, GA.

"Throughout its long and distinguished history, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of girls and women with the highest ideals of character, conduct and patriotism," Mayor Gregory Costabile said. "Through Girl Scouting, girls gain courage, confidence and character and who make their communities and the world a better place."

The resolution proclaimed the week of March 11-17 as Girl Scout Week in Mayfield Heights. Costabile noted that there are 3.4 million current scouts and 50 million women who are former Girl Scouts.
