Mayfield Village Residents Reminded to Keep Garbage Out of Sight

Ordinance went into effect in October.

officials want to make sure residents know to keep garbage cans out of sight. The village website continues to run an announcement on the homepage and the topic has been a regular staple of the village email blast.

Village Administrator Diane Wolgamuth said the effort isn't about continual problems as much as notifying residents so they comply without having to be cited. The fine for violations can be up to $500, but Wolgamuth said the village would rather issue warnings than citations at this point.

"We want to make sure that everyone's aware of the new ordinance," she said.

Passed on Oct. 17, the ordinance states that residents are required to have rubbish "stored out of site from any and all public streets and roadways." Village officials ask that residents contact the building department at 440-461-2213 before constructing any type of enclosure.

Trash can be placed on tree lawns at 6 p.m. the day before scheduled pickup day.
