Mayfield Village To Help Residents With Flooding Issues

Homeowners to be reimbursed for repairs.

officials are developing a plan to pay back residents who install backflow devices or take other steps to control basement flooding.

Service Director Douglas Metzung said he'd like to copy what was done in Highland Heights, which recently adopted a sanitary sewage surcharge policy under which residents can recoup their costs for repairs.

"This is an attempt to help people who are unfortunately in a bad place," Metzung said.

Homeowners would make repairs and apply to the village for reimbursement. Metzung said the village would take the funds from surplus maintenance money being held by Cuyahoga County for use in the village.
