Memorial Day 2017 Service Planned In Mayfield Heights

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH — The city of Mayfield Heights will honor fallen veterans on May 29 as part of its Memorial Day celebration. A service will be held at City Hall in front of the wall of honor on the Chelmsford Road side. The service will begin at 10 a.m.

The service is expected to last one hour and will feature guest speaker Andrew Bergman, who enrolled in the United States Army at age 18 after growing up in rural Kansas. Bergman served four years with the 3rd Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007 and 2011. He was honorably discharged in 2015. He lives in Mentor, Ohio.

Bergman's awards and recognition's include Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Overseas Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

If there is rain, the event will be held in the Fire Department Bays. Chelmsford Road will be closed during the service.

Additionally, there will be Catholic services held at cemeteries throughout Cuyahoga, Summit, and Lorain County. The list of cemeteries with Memorial Day services is below.
