'Moms Talk' Q & A: Should Smoking Be Banned in Cars With Young Children?

Legislation is being considered by Ohio Senate.

Each week the council will answer a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council.

This week, the Moms Council addresses legislation under consideration in the Ohio Senate that would make it illegal to smoke in a car with a child younger than 6 years old inside.

Susan Jerome: That's a tough one. I understand the logic behind the legislation but how far is too far for the government to dictate our lives? That is my concern. If we allow the government to start controlling our personal choices then what will they consider their responsibility next?

Although I understand the dangers of second-hand smoke, I'm inclined to say keep the government out of this one.
