'Moms Talk' Q & A: What Do You Think About The Hunger Games Controversy?
Book series and movie have been challenged for their violence.

Each week the council will answer a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council.
This week, the Moms Council talks about The Hunger Games and whether the topic's suitable for children.
Not being familiar with the books, I really didn't know what the fuss was about when the movie was released. It reminded me about the criticism of the Harry Potter books, only with violence being questioned rather than magic or fantasy being a danger.

Now that The Hunger Games remains the top box office draw, a lot of parents have to be wondering if a battle to the death scenario's appropriate fare for their children.
Here's what the Moms had to say:

Susan Jerome: My concern is much more broad than just this trilogy. I am thoroughly amazed at the lack of morals and values of this country and the "anything goes" mentality.
This is just another example in this crazy world we live in now. If we take the book(s) off the shelf, will it have a true impact on society? I doubt it, but we still should. We needed to be worried about all of this a long time ago. It has totally spiraled out of control.

We need to be protesting television, books, and movies if we are offended by this type of material.

Is it appropriate for children? Not much is anymore. I don't even think it's appropriate for adults! You become what you are exposed to so be very careful what you choose. Concerned parents really have to be aware of everything their children are exposed to in all the media!
Kim Zannetti: I have heard quite a bit of hulabaloo with Hunger Games. I have not read them and neither have my children. I did hear something on the news about it being considerably violent and maybe not for kids. I really don't know enough to comment though …
