Mysterious Leak Will Not Delay Opening of Parkview Pool

Facility opens on Friday despite losing 2 inches a day.

Service Director Douglas Metzung is determined to find the cause of a leak responsible for Parkview Pool losing 2 inches a water per day.

Despite the problem, the pool will open as scheduled on Friday, June 8. However, Metzung wants this to be the last season for the leak, which was first discovered in 2010.

Since then, the pool was caulked and painted. When that didn't stop the leak, village officials checked cracks, valves and everything else to find the cause.

"We had a member of the pool staff who is a scuba diver check all cracks and welds. He saw nothing," Metzung said.

This spring, American Leak Detection conducted its own review and didn't find any leaks. Then the company that installed the pool, Astro Pool, was called in.

"They did exactly what we did and were unable to find it," Metzung said. "It could be the sum of a number of little cracks that would be hard to see."

Village officials plan to look at the cost of resurfacing the bottom of the pool and compared that to the expense of the additional water.

"The bottom of the pool is showing some age," said Metzung, who also vowed that he will find the leak.
