Planning Commission Delays Vote on GetGo Lot Split

Developer Lance Osborne will be at the next Planning & Zoning Commission meeting for a third try to get a lot split approved for the proposed Shoppes at Brainard Crossing/GetGo project.

Preliminary approval of the lot split was given on May 14, but commission members decided against voting on final approval Tuesday night because a legal description didn't match a map of the property at Wilson Mills and Brainard roads.

Osborne's map showed three parcels, with portions of the two existing parcels taken away to form the area where the GetGo gas station/convenience store would be built. That's the parcel that would need to be presented to voters for rezoning to motor service use.

However, a legal description had the property as only two parcels, with the remaining portion combined. That led commission member and Councilman Robert Mastrangelo to suggest that a vote be delayed until everything matched.

"It's not going to hurt Mr. Osborne because I think we'll be on schedule with council," he said, adding that the next commission meeting on June 11 will be prior to the next council meeting, scheduled for June 12.

Commission chairman Vince Adamus said he also was more comfortable waiting for a more detailed map and a letter from the city engineering verifying the legal description was accurate.

Council approval also is need for the lot split, as Council President Cathy Murphy mentioned to commission members.

"This is the first step that we need to take in order to develop the ballot language," she said. "Right now, we're working on the development plan."
