Police Are Back in Black and White
Mayfield Village takes traditional approach with new cruisers.
After years of mostly white cars with blue stripes, the Police Department is going back in time with their new 2012 Dodge Chargers.
"I'm a traditional guy," said Police Chief Richard Edelman, who worked with Lt. Paul Jablonski and vendors to design the new black-and-white look of two Dodge Chargers the department recently received.
"We went with the black-and-white scheme of the traditional police car. We incorporated some of the elements from our old cars," Edelman said, pointing to the Mayfield Village Police badge logo on the side door.
In 1992, the department's cars switched to all white. Edelman said the black-and-white cruisers are more readily recognized by the public as police cars.
"It's always been recognized as a police car," he said.
The department plans to convert the rest of the fleet to the color scheme when new cars are purchased.
