Police Blotter: 'Prize Winner' Scammed Out of $2,500

Information supplied by the Mayfield Heights Police Department.

An Eagle Trace woman called police at 12:10 p.m. Dec. 5 to report a scam phone call she received from a man claiming to be with Prize Allocation Department. He told her to go to and purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak for $2,500. He then called back to get the 14-digit number on the receipt and used the money. The woman refused to complete a statement – she just wanted police to be aware of the scam.

A caller said a man and woman were arguing at 2:34 a.m. Dec. 7 in the hallway of a Golden Gate Boulevard building. They were talking about heroin and were now having sex in the hallway, the caller said. The couple told police they were on the way to their apartment.

Two juveniles were shooting at things with pellet guns at 4:28 p.m. Dec. 6 in woods off of Cordova Road. They were told it was private property and the boys left.

A woman called at 10:34 p.m. Dec. 4 and said her boyfriend was on Interstate 271 and hit something between Cedar and Mayfield roads. He didn't know what it was, but it was large and white.

A Mayfield Road woman called police at 6:49 a.m. Dec. 4 and said a man was swearing at her through spirits and she wanted a protection order.

A man carrying a pole was pounding on patio windows and doors at 5:38 p.m. Dec. 4 on Golden Gate Boulevard. He told police he was upset with his mother and walking it off.
